Black Willow (Salix nigra)

Growing Conditions: Wet soil along streams, and at the margins of ponds and lakes are its primary habitats.

Ecological Benefits:  These large undulating trees are great at binding soil banks, thus preventing soil erosion and flood damage. Black Willow support the habitat of both a plethora of terrestrial and aquatic biota; most notable wood be Wood Duck and the Eastern Brook Trout.
