Growing conditions - hardy to zones 3-9; tolerant of a range of soil conditions but grows best in moist to wet soils; pH 6-7; prefers full sun
Benefits - native; an important host species for moths, native bees, and other pollinators; seeds provide food for birds and small mammals; twigs, flowers, and foliage all color the landscape red throughout the seasons; can be tapped for sap in the spring
